Captec Welcomes Canada's Secretary of State for Defence Procurement

Captec Group welcomed the Honorable Stephen Fuhr, Secretary of State (Defence Procurement), to its corporate headquarters in Fareham, UK on 24 July 2026.

Secretary of State Fuhr was joined by his Chief of Staff, James Cudmore, and fellow members of the Canadian delegation for discussions with Captec senior leaders and a tour of the Group’s engineering, integration and manufacturing facilities.

The visit explored how government, prime contractors and industry can work together to strengthen Canada’s domestic defense ecosystem as the country increases investment in defense procurement and sovereign industrial capability.

Established in the UK in 1985, Captec has operated in Canada since 2006. Its presence in both countries connects established Canadian engineering and manufacturing operations with the Group’s wider international defense capabilities.

Discussions considered how experienced defense organizations can help Canada expand its industrial capacity more rapidly. They also explored how Captec, as an established Canadian SME, can work alongside other Canadian SMEs and international primes to reinforce local supply chains, support industrial participation commitments and increase the proportion of defense systems engineered, manufactured and supported within Canada.

“Captec’s Canadian company has over 20 years of operational presence in Canada, with access to our deep roots in the UK defense sector. This enables us to provide a direct bridge for transferring proven expertise, technology, intellectual property and manufacturing knowledge into Canada.

“Rather than starting lower down the learning curve, Canada has the opportunity to leverage more than four decades of Captec’s experience. This can help accelerate the development of domestic capability while supporting sovereign Canadian engineering, manufacturing and supply chains.

“As we continue to invest in Canada, our ambition is to help build a stronger and more capable Canadian defense industry, creating high-value domestic capability and supporting future export growth.”
– Max Toti, CEO and Founder, Captec Group

The visit highlighted how partnerships combining established Canadian operations with proven international expertise can accelerate the continued development of Canada’s defense industrial base.
