Known to us for saving the lives of our office IT equipment, our ITC manager, Steve Morton, has now volunteered to save the lives of people under the Community First Responder scheme.
The scheme is comprised of volunteers from local businesses who aim to be on the scene of potentially life-threatening incidents to provide assistance in the crucial moments before the emergency services arrive.
Steve will be responsible for the Segensworth business district and delivering lifesaving treatments including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CPR, basic airway management and oxygen therapy.
All first responders are required to undergo and pass a training course which is re-evaluated and approved every six months. This is supplemented with ongoing training sessions. The volunteers are trained to treat all ages, maximising the effectiveness of their role. Alongside two others, Steve has been sponsored by the Segensworth Business Forum who has provided automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the first responders, enabling them to detect and treat serious heart emergencies at the scene of an incident.
Steve is a serial helper, having been a first aider since the age of 14 and currently registered as a volunteer for both the blood bike group and police support. At Captec, we couldn’t be more proud of Steve and will continue to fully support him in all the work that he does for the community. Steve said: “Becoming a community first responder seemed like a natural progression to me. I’ve wanted to do this for some time now and I can’t wait to get started and hopefully save some lives!”
