Category Buyer – Cambridge, Canada

We have an opening for an experienced Category Buyer, to support the Procurement strategy within our multi-regional Supply Chain team.

As a Category Buyer working in our Canada office and reporting to the Group Supply Chain Manager, you will support our manufacturing operations by managing the procurement of both direct and indirect categories, including critical consumables and manufacturing materials.  In addition, you will support the procurement strategy, undertake supplier negotiations through effective relationship building.

We envision the successful candidate to have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain roles within an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment, demonstrable experience in negotiation and supplier management, be familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite and procurement systems and have some exposure to ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing procurement strategies for specific product categories, support preparation and implementation of pans and monitor and report on progress.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify potential suppliers and their capabilities to support decisions.
  • Monitor commodity pricing trends and adapt strategy accordingly.
  • Prepare documentation for contract discussions to drive cost down.
  • Assist in/own contract negotiation and maintain supplier agreement ensuring compliance, track outcomes and maintain records.
  • Manage supplier relationships, track performance and bring issues to resolution meeting with suppliers where required. Prepare and distribute supplier performance results.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align requirements and coordinate activities to meet business needs.
  • Perform cost control and data analysis activities including identifying and implementing cost saving opportunities, developing a procurement plan based on historical data and support the maintenance and accuracy of procurement databases.
  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to company policies, regulatory requirements and ethical standards, assisting in mitigating supply chain risks.
  • Support senior colleagues in auditing supplier compliance documentation, identifying potential compliance concerns and escalating accordingly.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on compliance regulations and procurement best practices.

  • Friendly but assertive approach, and the ability to influence and persuade others is important
  • Passionate, and energetic team player with a positive outlook.
  • High level of accuracy and meticulousness in maintaining documentation, contracts, and supplier records.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task handling multiple priorities.
  • Works well under pressure in order to meet deadlines..
